Problem solvers â??Any good ideas? My situation is I have 2 cars, one works great and one needs repairs,?
How can I do this, I need your knowledge/ advice: I have a 2002 Toyota Rav4 (fully paid) that I ultimately need the transmission fixed (about $2000) and other work ($500). I really like this car and dont want to part with it. It is just sitting in the garage. For my job I am required to do errands and I just had to have a car, so I had to take $1200, that I was saving to fix my toyota and ended up buying a 1998 Saturn that runs great, but looks horrible from the outside. I Really want to fix my Toyota as fast as I can get it fixed. What should I do? I have $600- monthly disposable income towards this, I do have bad credit, so taking out a loan is not likely. Personally, what would you do?? I really appreciate any help thank you (DO NOT CLIK ON ' JESSICA' BELOW, IT MAY BE A VIRUS) Hello to Big R, I would love to fix the car myself, but I did get 3 auto shops to give me an estimate and a diagnosis of the problem for my Rav and it has a lot of metal shavings in the trans oil, and its running on 2nd gear, so itll be tough for me to fix it..

- maybe we can work something out...
- Buy some body filler and fix the appearance damage on the Saturn. You ave no idea when you spend the money to fix the Toyota if that will be the end of the repairs. Something else might just be waiting to break.
- start squirreling the money to fix the rav4. In 5 months you'll have the money saved. It always sounds like more when you put it like that, but when you add up the savings, then it's not going to take very long at all. if you are concerned that you might dip into it, go set up a savings account and dump it in each month. Your goal.. as soon as you fix the Toyota.. you can sell the saturn.. whatever you get for it.. go do something fun.
- I was in a similar situation last year. I shopped around and found a mechanic who was willing to take a down payment for repairs and for me to make payments. I made sure he heard from me frequently and had my address, phone, work number, etc. Now I get to enjoy my Trooper AND have a working second vehicle, too. Good luck! P.S. - Glad you got some real answers. Maybe you could save some money by doing some of the repairs on the Toyota yourself. Auto repair is hardly brain surgery. If you get a repair manual you can probably do at least something. If you can follow a recipe you can fix a car. Also, you may be able to find a cheaper mechanic. Some people do repair work out of their homes or come to you. Ask around. Maybe you could find a way to save extra money or get an extra job for a while. I'd fix that Toyota. They are bulletproof. Your problem is frustrating but not unsolvable. In ten years it won't matter. And you'll probably still have that Rav!
