Is it better to go through a credit repair company, or to dispute yourself?

- It depends on if you want to pay or not. If you do not mind paying the money then get a company. If you mind then you can dispute yourself. they both have the same result.
- Dispute it yourself. All the credit repair company does is gives you the form letter and takes your money. It is a free service and reporting agencies must investigate all claims.
- Contact your creditor directly first. Several years ago, I directly called up the credit card company I owed money to. They were so thrilled that I was making an effort to make good on my debt instead of blowing it off/declaring bankruptcy that they offered to settle with me for half of the amount owed. Credit repair companies generally can't make deals like that. I cleaned up my rating and have had no issues since (I learned my lesson!).
- Better to dispute it yourself. Credit repair companies are out to make a profit too ya know? And you are the person who pays for their profit. So get on the phone and start disputing, and saving money.
