I am searching for info on online credit repair services. Do they work? What improvement can be expected?

1. Yes, they do work, but they are REALLY expensive. I researched them, and then I realized I can just do the same thing myself..and it doesnt take much time at all. If you go to MIX6.com, it'll tell you everything, and even give you the dispute letters. You can get your credit report from freecreditreport.com (it costs $1), annualcreditreport.com (free once a yr), or if you apply for a credit card and get denied, experian will give you a free copy of your credit report. 2. There is no magic "voodoo" out there that you can pay for and get a clean credit report. Anything they can do you can do yourself. First get your reports from the 3 credit bureaus. go to "annualcreditreport.com to get all 3 of them once a year. Then go over the report and dispute any incorrect entries with the credit bureaus - instructions and forms can be obtained on-line at the above site also. If you owe - take care of it and pay it off. If you don't make enough money to pay it off then call your Credit Card Company and negotiate with them. As soon as you mention "bankruptcy" they will gladly work with you and you will be amazed how willing they will be to lower your interest rate or even go zero interest until you can get caught up and get the balance down. If you still don't think you can pay it down - ask to "settle" with them. Offer to pay an amount that you can afford... But don't get ridiculous. If you owe them $3000 offer to settle at $1000 and pay that off immediately.
3. Great response by Reena. I just gave the same answer in another question. Credit repair companies are a scam. All they can legally do is have info that is incorrect removed from your credit report. You can do the same thing. Go to annualcreditreport.com to get free copies of your report (one per credit bureau per year). If there are incorrect items on it, you can contact the agency and have it removed. If everything is correct, the only thing that will improve it is time and paying your bills on time. DO NOT waste money on a credit repair company
4. You should use credit repair agency to fix your credit - for example this one - http://buildcredit.ifastnet.com - They can clean lots of bad stuff from your credit report - and do it much faster than yourself, so your credit will go up fast.
