Is it better to go through a credit repair service or pay the collection agency directly?
Okay, my credit is really not all that bad and I have paid off cards within the last few months. Yes I did cut them up, pay them off and closed the accounts. There are still four cards that have unpaid balances that total about $1200 and less on each. Unfortunately the accounts were opened junior year of high school and Im a sophmore in college. With that being said they are still outstanding debts and I would like to pay them off to repair my credit. Is it best to pay the third party collection agencies or go directly to a credit repair business that charges per account to clean up my credit? Is it worth it to pay them off or should I let them charge off?

- i think i have your perfect solution. there's this site, http://d95.com/credcard , where you can get a credit card especially made for people that have bad credit or no credit at all. you just gotta give them your information, they'll look into it and get back to you with how much of a credit line you will be able to get. your gauranteed at least 2000 i believe.
- Before you sign up for a credit repair company, read this: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/repair.shtm Are these accounts still open and active and just have balances? Or did you stop paying and accounts have been charged off and sold to a collection agency? If they are active accounts, just concentrate on paying them off. If they are defaulted, contact the collection agency and negotiate a settlement. Be sure to get it in writing and don't give the collector direct access to your bank account.
