Has anyone used credit repair agency? Do they work?

- every one is rip off.. they charge you for services that you can get done for free
- you can repair your own credit much cheaper. get your report from all 3 agencies and mass mail them letters contesting the bad stuff on your credit. they will take off every one that the creditor can not prove: ie: by providing original contracts, things with your sig., etc. they will take away up to 50 % off your bad credit, wait 3 months and start again...time consuming but worth it
- a lot of them will call your creditors and attempt to negotiate a settlement on your accounts. DON'T PAY FOR THIS!!! honestly, most of them will work out a settlement or a payment plan with you if you are willing to stick with it.
- I've not used one personally however the company I work for sends clients to Consumer Credit
- I would stay away from these. some are scams and most you are paying them a fee for a service that you can do on your own. Just pay the min on your payments or more if you can, always pay on time, check credit report and make sure everything is right. eventually you will get on the right track. But these things take time.
- Save your money and do it yourself. I send my own letters to dispute everything on my credit reports. I make sure that they do all the followup by the FCRA Regulations. What does not show correctly, comes off.. Also check with E-loan, they have all types of strategies to help with this. Letters, budgeting, credit repair etc. You can find more info here: http://debt.knowledged.info/credit_card.html Hope that helps.
- Yea they do work, but you have to pay that's all. Some people say it's a ripoff because everything can be done on your own. But then not everyone has time to write letters and dispute all their inquiries. A lot of them give you a free consultation so you can see what "they" would do and maybe do it yourself afterwards. Try it out yourself and if it doesn't work out try one of those agency out. Here's a decent one that I stumbled upon when I was in this process myself. http://www.ez-creditrepair.info
