bad credit?
I am going to be a sophomore in college next year and i was planning on getting an apartment with this couple. They have already signed the lease and what not they are now looking for two roommates. I live in michigan and its a really hard time for everyone here. Earlier in the year i had to shut down my cell phone early because i no longer had a job, only school, so i didnt really need it. There was a fee to shut it down early and i wasnt able to pay that. I paid all my bills on time though. Anyways there are going to run a credit check on my application and i was wondering how bad is my credit going to really be. My phone thing happend in oct. and i havent paid the fee yet. When i get my tax money back thats when it wil be paid off. What should i do?!

- I really wouldn't worry about that one incident. Yes, if they check your credit it would say you have collections activity- if in fact they sent you to collections and reported it to the credit bureaus. The chances of that are slim. Even if they did report it, and all your other bills are paid on time, the effect on your credit report shouldn't be more than a few points off, if not just a minor flaw. Everyone has those flaws. Once you pay it off, make sure you call the company and request that they fix your credit report. You wouldn't want bad remarks on there if they aren't true. You can also explain to your future landlords if the credit report would come back- tell them you had financial difficulties due to you being in school and not having a job at the time. They might work with you. Good luck.
