Bad Credit Agency

Please help. I am hoping someone can advice me on some good credit repair companies/attorneys.?

I have just returned to the country after working overseas and gotten my credit report. its awful. There are mistakes and perhaps a few things that are correct. All were based on emergency surgery I had with no health insurance. My story may be worse than some and better than others. Regardless, I need help getting it corrected. I know that there are many companies out there, some that are good and some that are not. I am hoping there are some individuals who can guide me towards the good ones. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. Instead of wasting money on credit repair company, do it yourself. Most of those credit repair companies are scams anyway. If there are errors on your credit report, dispute them with the credit bureaus. Doesn't have to be any special letter or wording -- doesn't even have to be complete sentences. You can then contact any of the negatives and negotiate settlement. Start with the newest and work backwards -- the older the item, the less impact on your score. Negatives fall off your report 7-1/2 years after the first deficiency. So you can let anything close, just age off. You can probably settle any medical debt for half and request delete for payment. Get any agreement in writing and don't give them access to your bank account. Lump sum gets the best deals and any payment plan has to be short term.
  2. I (as a CPA) refer my customers with credit issues to this company and think they are pretty good. Reasonable charge. If your current situation is worse than you can personally handle, specialist might be a way. (consider time, efficiency, results) Lexington Law Firm
  3. I would go to a non-profit like CCCS. They do not charge a fee. They help make the corrections, and assisit in getting repayment plans established with creditors.
  4. First regarding the mistakes. Just dispute those directly with the 3 big credit bureaus. If you pulled your reports, they should have info on how to dispute them on the reports. They'll contact the creditors and ask them to prove they're legitimate and correct. If not, off they go. A site I've used for info in the past ... http://debt.knowledged.info/credit_card.html Hope that helps.
