what info does a comapany need to turn you in to a credit agency?
I got a call from some company I never heard of, I refused to pay them and they said I would be sent to a credit agency. What should I do? What information do they need to turn me in to a credit agency? Thanks

- Read this link, it outlines pretty well what happens and how you can combat it. It also has links to the actual "The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" (FDCPA) that explains exactly what they can and cannot do. www.creditinfocenter.com/rebuild/ Enter that and then click on the 6th link down the middle, about debt validation.
- Most people would think that you'd need a social security number although that isn't the case. I owned a furniture outlet up until last year. We employed a collection agency for people that wrote us bad checks. Of course, we didn't collect social security numbers when customers bought a mattress set! All they really need is your name and address. Any information above that is just icing on the cake. They have skip tracing techniques that will get the rest. A friend of mine owns a restaurant and I helped him out for a few weeks while he left the country. Low and behold, a collection agency calls there for me! Huh? As far as the company is concerned, let them know that it is highly inconvenient for you to talk on the phone they're calling at that time and you'll need any correspondence to be in writing from now on. If they ask for an address, tell them to use the one they have on file. Go on to tell them that you'll be expecting the letter within one week. Cheers!
