Is it true that a company can't report you to a credit agency if they don't have your SSN?
I keep reading that companies like Columbia House can't follow up on their threats to turn your account over to a credit agency or whateer because they don't have your social security number. Is this true? Sounds kinda iffy to me.

- Not true. The issue you are discussing is credit accounts vs. trade accounts. My gym membership, cable company, video store, etc do report account activity to the credit reporting agencies. If I don't pay on my 2 year gym contract, they will turn it over to a collection agency, who will then notify the credit bureaus that I have a collections account. If they get a judgment against me, the local court may report that incidence. A trade account could be reported with just a name and address. a>
- They can sell your debt to a collection agency but without a ssn they cannot place it on your credit report. If they do, contact an attorney. Be careful of who you supply your ssn to. Anyone who has it can place anything on your credit report.
