Im not in debt enough to get credit counseling help?
How can I get help if the credit counseling agency tells me I need to be at least $6000 in debt? and I am not.

- Legitimate credit counseling services do not charge you, they work with your lenders to take a percentage of your payments. If you don't have enough debt, it is not worth their time for the money they make. Besides, $6000 in debt is not really that much. If you are working, you should be able to pay that yourself. If you are not working, the counseling won't be able to help you anyway.
- Credit Counseling is a business and will affect your credit negatively for much longer than most bankruptcies! Avoid it as much as possible! Call your creditors, and make arrangements. It will be much easier. If your debt is less than 6k than you are in okay shape to make it happen. If you have any more questions e-mail me at stevenlaureys at hotmail dot com.
- That doesn't sound right. A credit counselor should help you if you are in unmanageable debt regardless of the amount. If 6K is drowning you you obviously need soem intervention. That's like alcholics anonymous saying they'll only let you come to a meeting after your third DWI. I would do a little more investigating on this. In fact a good place to start might be one or more of your creditors who may have a good referral for you. If you need credit help, go get it. Don't try to do this yourself.
- I am a certified credit counselor and my job is to help people in your position who feel they are drowning in debt. To look for a program, check for a company registered with the BBB, certified by the NFCC (National Foundation of Credit Counseling) and registered to perform debt management in your state. The only impact to credit is that most cc companies will require you to close the accounts, which brings down the score. The good news is you can easily bring that up by making on time payments through a credit counseling agency. The only way a credit counselor can help you is if you have the income to set aside to pay off the debts. I wish you the best!
- Start by looking around a good credit counseling company, and not become a victim of one of the various credit counseling scams that are prevalent today. Do not be misled by any ad that assures you quick fixes for your credit report. This is an impossible promise. Instead search for a honest company accredited to Consumer Credit Counseling Services. Then fix a meeting with a professional credit counselor, and apprise them about your debt situation. Do not omit anything as they will require the entire information to draw up re-payment plan according to your situation.
