Has anyone used a credit repair agency? Who did you use, and was it worth it?
I am buying a home, and need to raise my credit score some before the house is completed. That'll take about 4 months. I've looked at a number of credit repair agencies, but want to know if anyone has used one and if it helped.

- Hi, I own a credit repair agency ( one that's legal and not out to rip off innocent consumers ). Although there are a lot of scams out there, some companies that assist in credit repair are legitimate and really do help. Email me @ info@newmillcredit.com and I will be happy to give you some free advice. No cost, other than your time. I have seven years plus experience in the field of credit restoration and contrary to popular belief, you can revive your credit score even if the accounts are new in collections or charge offs. Whomever you choose to help you make sure that they are legal and will not have you doing anything illegal to magically fix your credit score. As a side note, there's a lot of stuff on the internet about establishing a new identity, applying for an EIN ( employment identification number or TIN ( tax identification number ) to use as a new social security number. This totally illegal and a lot of people are doing jail time for it. So please before you take measures to fix your credit issues make sure you thoroughly investigate the company and the procedures that they use. Filing for bankruptcy is not a good idea at this point in time since it will take you a lot longer than 4 months to re-establish yourself credit wise. So if you don't have to don't. It will do more damage than good in this situation. Hope this helps.
- Monkeys can give loans by credit score. 750 ooh ooh get the loan. 700 ooh ooh don't get the loan. :) Instead of worrying about your credit score start looking for a lender that has a brain. Look for a lender that can look at your situation and make a good judgment about your situation. It may be that you have a bad score but just paid off all your debt, closed your credit lines, and got a better job. All that would be great for a lender but your score may still be awfull. Get your budget out and see what debt you can pay off before it comes to mortgage time. Every bit of debt that you carry increases the risk in your life. Every payment that you get rid of and close out increases the wiggle room in your budget to make sure that the most important payment in your life will get paid. Don't fall for any "smart loan" garbage. Anything other than fully amortizing loan will do. No balloons. No interest only. No surprises. No 80/20. If you have to play with the numbers or do tricks to get you into the house then it's a good sign that you can't afford it. Normal is credit. Normal is broke. Be weird.
- Before you go to a credit repair agency, see if there is anything you can do yourself to raise your score. Do you have any loans with a low balance that you can pay off? Also, make sure you don't have any late payments between now and then and that will help. You also don't want a lot of people looking at your credit report or that can lower your score.
- You can do what a credit repair company will do yourself. Check on ebay for a book called guerilla credit repair. It works great and i have used it to help clients out.
- Remember this when it comes to hiring a credit repair company A credit bureau will not remove accurate negative information from your credit report before the legal time period has expired. Therefore, do not believe anyone who claims they can get negative information removed from your credit report faster than is legally required. There are no "loopholes" or laws that credit repair companies can use to get correct information off your credit report. No credit repair company can do anything you can't do for yourself. It is impossible for a third party to make changes in your file if the facts have been correctly reported.
