I filed Bankruptcy in 2005. Why are some of the creditors still asking for payment?

When I checked my credit report i saw several companies i had owed money to still showing "in collections" and not charged off in bankruptcy. today i just revieved another notice saying i owed this company money when it was to be put on my bankruptcy. Should i send them a copy of my bankruptcy? I didnt do a repair or contest thing with my credit report on items that should of been on my bankruptcy is there more i should be doing? FYI i did the bankruptcy on my own and not with an attorney. oops I meant i did do a repair on my credit report.

1. Were the creditors included in the bankruptcy? Was the bankruptcy discharged and did it include this creditor? Was the bankruptcy filed properly? All the above can be contributing factors.
2. If the creditor was listed and is not exempt from discharge (like student loans) this should not be happening. Many times, collection agencies buy paper in bulk and they were not notified that the BK applies to the debt. Give them the case name and number. If you have the schedule that listed the debt, give them a copy. If not, tell them that the debt was scheduled and that they are in violation of the FFDCPA (Federal Fair Debt Collectioins Practices Act) as they are trying to collect a debt that has been discharged. Further inform them that if they persist in any way, including making new reports on your credit report, that you will file a complaint with the Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission.

4. Well, I would say that you need to go back and make sure that you listed these creditors in the bankruptcy...if you didn't then you still owe that amount. Just because you file bankruptcy doesn't mean everything is covered...you have to list every debt that you want covered.
5. Send them a copy of the discharge and then ignore them.
